چکیده
FEBRUARY 2011 CATARACT & REFRACTIVE SURGERY TODAY EUROPE 17 C ataract surgery has transitioned from a standardized, lens-based procedure to refractive surgery. This evolution has required the assembly of different parts, like a puzzle, to optimize postoperative distance and near UCVA. New phaco platforms, instruments, and IOLs, along with the new techniques and the right attitude, have enabled the pieces of this puzzle to come together. This article discusses the elements that have allowed us to improve the refractive results of cataract surgery.

JULY/AUGUST 2010 CATARACT & REFRACTIVE SURGERY TODAY EUROPE 15 H ydrophilic IOLs have many appealing characteristics, such as good optical clarity, good biocompatibility, a low incidence of dysphotopias, and good compressibility allowing implantation through small incisions. Many of these characteristics are due to the water content of hydrophilic lenses, which can vary from 18% to 30%. In cont...

OCTOBER 2011 CATARACT & REFRACTIVE SURGERY TODAY EUROPE 31 A classic problem in cataract surgery is the a priori determination of the ideal power of the IOL to be implanted. After a long history of efforts by many practitioners and enthusiasts, current IOL power calculation methods provide reasonably good average accuracy. However, the price for this progress is an increasing number of formulas...

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2010 CATARACT & REFRACTIVE SURGERY TODAY EUROPE 23 F ull-thickness penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) has been the preferred corneal transplantation technique since the procedure was first described in 1905 by Eduard Zirm.1 Today, PKP generally results in clear corneal grafts, with a graft survival rate of up to 72% at 5 years.2 However, the procedure is frequently complicated by ...
متن کاملInvestigation of visual acuity and residual refractive error after cataract surgery in patients with senile cataract by phacoemulsification
Background and Aim: Vision improvement and reduction of refractive errors are considered as important goals of cataract surgery. The purpose of this study was to evaluate residual refractive errors after cataract surgery in the patients with senile cataract in Shahid Rahimi Hospital in Khorramabad City between 2017 and 2018. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 178 patients...
متن کاملVisual and Refractive Results of Cataract Surgery by Phacoemulsification Method in Patients with Keratoconus
Purpose: To examine the visual and refractive results of cataract surgery by phacoemulsification method in patients with keratoconus. Methods: In this retrospective study, the files of patients with keratoconus, who underwent phacoemulsification between 2008 and 2017, were evaluated. The intraocular lens power calculation formula was SRK/T. Post-operative visual and refractive results were anal...
